The Waukesha County Youth Hockey Association will receive the first grant from the recently established Brianna Decker Endowment for Girls Hockey through The USA Hockey Foundation.
A formal presentation will be made by Decker to members of the Association on Sept. 4 at Nagawaukee Ice Arena in Delafield, Wis. Three days later, Decker will be enshrined into the Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame in Eagle River, Wis.
Decker, a two-time Olympian who helped the U.S. to gold at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, grew up playing in the Waukesha County Youth Hockey Association. She has been a key component of the U.S. Women’s National Team program for the past decade, including helping Team USA capture gold on six different occasions at the International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship.
Decker teamed up with The USA Hockey Foundation to create the Endowment with the intent to help increase female youth hockey participation by alleviating costs surrounding ice time, equipment, advertising and marketing, and overall development. The goal is to support 8U and 10U female hockey programs – initially in Decker’s home state of Wisconsin – and eventually nationwide.
